Conference to address issues and campaigns that relate the women as educators

Women members of Federation are gathering in the union’s auditorium in Surry Hills this morning for a day of presentations and workshops aimed at supporting them in their classrooms, workplaces and communities.

Conference participants will have the opportunity to attend two workshop sessions. Topics include:

  • positive and productive workplaces
  • Performance and Development Framework
  • multicultural education
  • protecting your rights at work
  • lobbying MPs
  • resolving workplace issues
  • workplace committees
  • supporting LGBTIQ colleagues
  • standards-based pay.

Federation Women’s Coordinator Leeanda Smith said the conference gives women members the opportunity to meet with other women in a safe space to raise issues and hear about the latest issues and campaigns that relate the women as educators.

Feminist and social activist Van Badham will deliver the keynote address.

Federation hopes women attending the conference will be inspired to contribute more to the union after hearing a panel of women from other unions talk about their role in increasing engagement and activism among their members.

Conference participants will also hear about the We Won’t Wait family and domestic violence leave campaign, and see a video message from ACTU Secretary Sally McManus.
