Casual Vacancy for City Organiser 2015-2018

Mr Neale Dawson, Principal Solicitor, NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer for the by-election of one (1) City Organiser of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation for 2015-2018.

The City Organiser will be appointed for the remainder of the triennium ending on 4 February 2019.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited for the following position:

• City Organiser (1 to be elected)

Candidates must be financial members of the Federation as at Wednesday, 7 February, 2018 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Federation.

A candidate may complete a candidate’s statement in support of candidature which will be forwarded to the Branch Professional Officers Committee for consideration and compiled and distributed with the ballot paper. The statement should be no more than 400 words.

The candidate’s statement should be typed in no less than a 12-point font and attached to their nomination.

As well, the candidate must provide a word file as an attachment to an email sent to [email protected] marked to the attention of the Returning Officer. This file will be used to print candidate statements on information sheets provided to voters.

Close of Nominations

Nominations and statement in support of Candidature must be received by the Returning Officer not later than noon on Wednesday, 7 February, 2018. They may be hand-delivered, posted, emailed or faxed to The Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd, 50 O’Dea Avenue, Waterloo NSW 2017, telephone – (02) 8595 1295, fax – 9662 2102, email [email protected].

On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective he will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or statutory declaration in support of candidature must be rectified by the candidate not later than noon on Friday 9 February, 2018.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law at 1 pm, Friday,9 February, 2018. Candidates or their representatives are invited to witness the draw.

Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Federation Council on Saturday, 17 February, 2018. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a three-minute speech.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential. All squares must be numbered.
