New Federation members — keen to have all their questions about the profession answered — paid close attention at the Beginning Teachers Conference held in Bundanoon at the weekend.
Topics covered during the two-day conference included classroom management, planning and programming, accreditation, conditions and entitlements, and gaining work in NSW public schools.
In a session titled “What I didn’t know when I started teaching”, two teachers shared their professional insights.
Conference participants also enjoyed opportunities to network with fellow new teachers at morning tea, lunches and a dinner and trivia night.
Recent teacher graduate Al Marshall reported to Twitter: “Lots to think about; Accreditation, Programming, Classroom Management, Aboriginal Education and funding….”
Federation hosts a number of beginning teacher conferences around the state for all new teachers who are employed as full-time, temporary or casual teachers by the Department of Education, and who are members of the union.
The union will host beginning teacher conferences at Coonabarabran and Wagga Wagga on 25-26 May, Newcastle on 29 June and back at Bundanoon on 21-22 September.
Completing a two-day Beginning Teachers Conference will contribute six hours of NESA Registered professional development addressing 1.4.2, 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.4.2, 3.2.2, 4.1.2, 6.1.2, 7.2.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Completing a one-day Beginning Teachers Conference will contribute four hours of NESA Registered professional development addressing 1.4.2, 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.4.2, 3.2.2, 4.1.2, 6.1.2, 7.2.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
