In response to members seeking guidance on ongoing assessment processes that inform the learning cycle and support student learning, the Centre for Professional Learning now offers a new course — Assessment K-6: Making Use of Meaningful Data.
Course participants looked at assessment for learning and how that information affects their pedagogy to improve student learning outcomes.
Teachers explored the value of their current assessment practices and how they align with NESA guidelines.
They heard ideas for practical implementation of aspects of assessment in their classrooms.
The course explained the value of ongoing assessment to help students meet the outcomes of the NSW English and Mathematics syllabus documents.
One participant said the course gave them “a better understanding of assessment and its purpose, and making it relevant”. Another found the course “extremely practical — offering great tips and ideas that can be taken back to schools and implemented without difficulty”.
Completing Assessment K-6: Making Use of Meaningful Data will contribute five hours of NESA Registered professional development addressing: 2.3.2, 3.1.2, 3.6.2, 5.1.2, 5.3.2, 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
The course will run at Charlestown on 21 August and Blacktown on 22 October.
