Are you a beginning teacher living in regional NSW? No problem, Federation hosts a number of Beginning Teacher Conferences around the state for all new teachers who are employed full-time, temporary or casual by the Department of Education, and who are members of the union.
The conferences provide an excellent opportunity for participants to network with other new teachers, explore their conditions of work and gain an explanation of the requirements and procedures for gaining and maintaining accreditation.
Other topics covered during the conference include the latest issues in the education system, as well as enhancement of programming, planning and classroom management skills. Participants also gain an understanding of the support and member services offered by Federation.
In 2019, Federation has taken many training courses out to rural and remote areas of the state. In May, two conferences were well attended by early-career teachers from the Riverina and Western NSW. Beginning teachers from the Wagga Wagga (40 members) and Coonabarabran (32 members) areas who attended brought their enthusiasm and passion to everything presented to them.
The two-day (weekend) conferences started at 9am Saturday and finished at lunchtime on Sunday.
A dinner was held on the Saturday night and accommodation was provided to all participants from outside the township.
The next sessions for Beginning Teachers will be held on:
- 29 June at Newcastle
- 2 July at Surry Hills.
Members are encouraged to participate in the many trade union training opportunities offered by Federation and they are encouraged to have the conversation with colleagues in their workplaces of the benefits of union membership.
Completing the two-day Beginning Teachers Conference will contribute 6 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 1.4.2, 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.4.2, 3.2.2, 4.1.2, 6.1.2, 7.2.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Completing a one-day Beginning Teachers Conference will contribute 4 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 1.4.2, 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 2.4.2, 3.2.2, 4.1.2, 6.1.2, 7.2.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
