Casual Vacancy for Multicultural Officer/Organiser

Mr Neale Dawson, Principal Solicitor, NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer for the by-election of a Professional Officer for the position of Multicultural Officer/Organiser of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch. The term of office will commence 28 January 2020 for the remainder of the 2019-2021 triennium ending on January 27, 2022.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited for the following position:

Candidates must be financial members of the Federation as at Monday 28 October 2019 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Federation.

A candidate may complete a statement in support of their candidature which will be forwarded to the Branch Professional Officers Committee for consideration and compiled and distributed with the ballot paper. The statement should be no more than 400 words and should be typed in no less than a 12-point font.

The candidate must provide the statement in word file format as an attachment to an email sent marked to the attention of the Returning Officer, to [email protected]. This file will be used to print candidate statements on information sheets provided to voters.

The Branch Professional Officers Committee, in accordance with the Federation Rules, will give a report to the Federation Council on Saturday, 23 November 2019.

Close of Nominations
Completed nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 13 November 2019. On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective, he will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or candidate’s statement must be rectified by the candidate no later than noon on Friday 15 November 2019.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law at 1pm Friday 15 November 2019. Candidates or their representatives are invited to witness the draw.

Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Federation Council on Saturday 23 November 2019. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a three-minute speech.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential. All squares must be numbered.
