Federation’s Women’s Conference

To maintain a sense of connection and solidarity with members despite the pandemic, Women’s Conference was held as an online webinar in August. The online conference was followed by workshops presented by Aware Super (formerly First State Super).

Women members from across the state and from a range of workplaces and teaching experiences participated. In an online poll, many members stated it was their first time attending a Women’s Conference.

The Acknowledgment of Country was delivered by Aboriginal Education Coordinator Charline Emzin-Boyd. Senior Vice President Amber Flohm provided a comprehensive report on Federation campaigns and addressed questions in the limited time available.

Our keynote speakers were Professor Rae Cooper and Dr Sarah Mosseri from the Women Work and Leadership Research Group (University of Sydney) on the topic “A Women’s Pandemic: Gender and COVID-19”.

Our service partners once again provided lucky door prizes. The prizes winners were randomly selected from the attendance list for the online conference and seminars.

Thanks to Aware Super (formerly First State Super) for donating four Byron Bay gift hampers as door prizes valued at $100 (and delivered to the winners).

Congratulations to the winners, members from Lower Blue Mountains, Coffs Harbour, Coonabarabran-Baradine and Inner City teachers associations.

Thanks to Teachers Health for donating a pair of Furla sunglasses valued at nearly $400. The winner was a first-time Federation Women’s Conference participant, and member of the Inner City Teachers Association.
