Vacancy for Branch Secretary and Deputy Secretaries

Mr Neale Dawson, Managing Director / Principal Solicitor, NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer for the election of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch – Branch Secretary and Deputy Secretaries ending on January 29, 2024.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited for the following positions:

  • Branch Secretary (1)
  • Deputy Secretary – Schools (1)
  • Deputy Secretary – Communications and Administration (1)
  • Deputy Secretary – Post Schools (1)
  • Deputy Secretary – Research, Industrial and Professional Support (1)

Candidates must be financial members of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch as at
18 October 2021 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch.

A candidate may complete a statement in support of candidature which will compiled and distributed with the ballot paper. The statement should be no more than 400 words.

The candidate’s statement should be typed in no less than a 12-point font and attached to their nomination.

As well, the candidate must provide a word file as an attachment to an email sent to [email protected] marked to the attention of the Returning Officer. This file will be used to print candidate statements on information sheets provided to voters.

Close of Nominations
Completed nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer not later than noon on 17 November 2021. On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective, he will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or candidate statement must be rectified by the candidate not later than noon on 24 November 2021.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law at 1pm, 25 November 2021. Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Council on
Saturday, 27 November 2021. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a three-minute speech. The ballot will be conducted by Mr Neale Dawson, Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential, to the last candidate (not to the last elected candidate). All squares must be numbered.
