Patrick White NSW Young Indigenous Writers’ Competition

The Patrick White New South Wales Indigenous Writers Awards is an annual competition, open to NSW Australian Indigenous school aged students from K–12. These awards have been initiated by the NSW Aboriginal Education Council in memory of Patrick White, who was Australia’s most outstanding and renowned writer.  Patrick White was an avid supporter of the advancement of Australian Indigenous youth.

The Awards have been designed to encourage Indigenous Australian students in NSW to use their reading, writing, and creative skills.

Entry may be either an individual piece of work from students in K-12, or, for Kindergarten to Year 3, as a piece constructed by a group of three or more students, one of whom must identify as Aboriginal.

All works must be produced under the supervision of a teacher or another adult who is willing to assure that the entry adheres to the rules and regulations, and to provide constructive criticism and general guidance.

The individual Poem, Short Story or Play for years K-12 must be the students’ own work.
