International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on Saturday 21 March will draw attention to the need for everyone to play a part in challenging and addressing both individual and systemic racism.
Race Discrimination Commissioner Giridharan Sivaraman states: “Real change starts with listening. As we approach the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) on 21 March 2026, it’s vital that we listen to the stories of First Peoples.” He also encourages centring anti-racism action on lived experiences.
Learn how to action an end to racism
Federation believes that if we are going to affect real change, it is time for us all to learn how to action an end to racism!
While our schools and TAFE colleges celebrate Harmony Week (16–22 March), Federation urges teachers to engage in meaningful antiracism education, alongside celebrating diversity, respect for culture and the power of inclusion.
