Relief Officers Election

Nominations are called for Relief Officer elections to establish a pool of Relief Branch Professional Officers who will be elected by Council at the October Council meeting.

Persons elected as Relief Branch Professional Officers shall be eligible to be appointed by the Branch Secretary as Relief Branch Professional Officers during 2023.

Nominations
Nominations are hereby invited for the following positions:

Group A: Relief for TAFE/Corrective Services (6)
Six to be elected, including, where possible, three men and three women

Group B: All other Professional Officers (20)
Twenty to be elected, at least half of whom shall be women

Candidates must be financial members of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch as at 12 September 2022 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch.

A candidate may complete a statement in support of candidature which will be provided to voters on the day of the election. The statement should be no more than 400 word and may include a passport sized photograph.

The candidate’s statement should be typed in no less than a 12-point font and be provided in the form of an electronic file to [email protected]. The statement must be received within seven days of the close of nominations (12noon Wednesday 26 October 2022).

Close of Nominations
Completed nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer not later than noon on 19 October 2022.

On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective, they will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or candidate statement must be rectified by the candidate not later than noon on 26 October 2022.

A draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper.

Voting
A ballot will be conducted at the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Council on Saturday, 29 October 2022.

Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a two minute speech. The ballot will be conducted by the Returning Officer.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential. All squares must be numbered.
