Applications for Federation’s TAFE Teacher Scholarship are open now

NSWTF General Secretary has presented a member at Wetherill Park TAFE College with Federation’s inaugural TAFE Teacher Scholarship.

Are you a TAFE member of Federation and enrolled in an accredited adult teacher education degree in NSW (or will be in 2026/2027)?

You could be eligible for Federation’s TAFE Teacher Scholarship, our annual grant to a TAFE teacher who champions public education and union activism.

Established in 2025, the TAFE Teacher Scholarship celebrates the contribution that TAFE teachers make to the union and to public education. In 2026, the amount on offer has been raised from $3000 to $4000, reflecting the growing interest in the scholarship among TAFE members.

Applicants must submit a 400-word essay on “the value of public adult education [and] the value of unions to society”, demonstrating a personal understanding of how our public education system and strong unions make for a better, fairer and more decent society.

Last year’s inaugural winner, Wetherill Park TAFE College member Simon Curran, wrote in his application that “union membership is a statement of intent to collaborate with like-minded colleagues for the best outcomes… in terms of wages and working conditions, but also in terms of accountability and professional standards”.

Applications are open now and close on Wednesday 27 May. Find more information about eligibility criteria.
