Vacancy for Branch Professional Officers

Mr Neale Dawson, Special Counsel, NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer for the by-election of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Professional Officer.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited (from 15 August 2026) for the following positions:

Candidates must be financial members of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch as at 7 August 2026 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch.

Candidates may submit a statement in support of candidature of no more than 400 words in 12 point Arial font which may include a passport size photograph. The statement should be sent as a word file attached to an email sent to ReturningOfficer@newlaw.com.au marked to the attention of the Returning Officer by 12 noon 8 September 2026. This file will be used to print your candidate statement for voters.

Close of Nominations

Completed nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 12 noon, Australian Eastern Standard Time, on Tuesday, 1st September 2026. They may be hand-delivered, posted, emailed or faxed to The Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd, 50 O’Dea Avenue, Waterloo NSW 2017, telephone – (02) 8595 1295, fax – (02) 9662 1202, email ReturningOfficer@newlaw.com.au.

On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective, he will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or candidate statement must be rectified by the candidate not later than 12 noon AEST on 8 September 2026.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law on 8 September 2026. Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Council on Saturday, 12 September 2026. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a three-minute speech. The ballot will be conducted by Neale Dawson, Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential, to the last candidate (not to the last elected candidate). All squares must be numbered.
